New Linkin Park Album Due Out May 19
It’s a big morning for Linkin Park, as the group released its new single, “Heavy,” and announced a May 19 release date for its seventh studio album, One More Light.
The group will also perform at 3 p.m. ET today (February 16) on Facebook Live.
“Heavy” was written by band members Mike Shinoda, Chester Bennington and Brad Delson, as well as outside contributors Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter. It also features guest vocals by pop/R&B singer Kiiara, and Shinoda tells us that the smooth and restrained (by Linkin Park standards) sound of the song is indicative of what fans can expect from the rest of One More Light:
“One of the reasons why we chose ‘Heavy’ as the first single is it is really the core sound of the album. This isn’t a scenario where the whole album sounds one way and the single sounds different. This is how the album sounds. So we wanted to go out with a song like that, where everybody can kind of get a sense of the direction of this body of work.”
Shinoda adds that Linkin Park is pleased by the anticipation for the single leading up today’s release:
“The excitement around it has been kind of crazy…We put out a lot of first singles, and this is one where I’m actually kind of been taken aback by the amount of excitement over the song and everything.”
Linkin Park has nine festival dates announced for spring and early summer in South America and Europe, but no North American shows on the itinerary yet.
